Eventful December #1

Hey Lil Stars

Its mid December and the cold is truly doing its thing here in London, the approaching festive season seems to be keeping me busy as I have been going to events all around town. I am on an events roll I have been exciting my events tastebud with a mix of networking and music events. Over the next few posts I will let you know about the events that I have been going to. First up is Open Gospel on Dec 7th.
 Open Gospel

So a lovely friend of mine Faith , hosted her first  of many gospel open mic night, a vision she has to provide a platform for gospel upcoming artists to share their God-given talent with the youth of today. As you know me, being a music -lover was happy to pop along even though its a sunday and I was at work since 7 am. However that was quickly forgotten once I entered 'The Garage' in Highbury and Islington and heard the talent in the room. Thoroughly enjoyed myself  I sang along, I jumped, I laughed (the compere was hilarious) and got serenaded with talent from: The Soloettes, Triple O, The Promise, Faith (herself) Owanari Briggs and the brave young open mic'ers.

Please don't get me started on the house band, OMGosh I could literally sit and stare or just listen to them play all night I even had my musician-stank-face on, my new phrase to describe such excellence is DISTURBINGLY GOOD so that's what I will be using from now on.Overall it was a relay good first open mic, im sure she learnt a lot from it, it wasn't a full house so my tip looking through my events lense is take advantage of social media and promote, promote, promote the event way in advance. But she has already got an offer for a partnership so YOU GO GIRL, keep going and I look forward to next year's event.

Star Quality Gospel Concert

Hi Event Lovers

Hope you are well and getting used to the cold. This post is a couple of months old,but I have something to tell you.........I'm living a double life at night time.

Don't worry its nothing terrible and shameful, I had the privileged of attending a stellar gospel concert as well as share the stage with some well known UK gospel artists. So where did you go Tee??
The event was the Philippines Appeal Concert held on the 11th January. From the outside, it seemed not that busy but behind the doors was the roar of praise, excitement and energy.
From a personal perspective I always wondered about, what combining my career (Events Management) and  church life would look like and this would be an event that I would be very proud of.  AMOUNT OF PEEPS WHO ATTENDED

Venue: - Very spacious, Artist VIP area upstairs balcony style where we could  enjoy the concert too which was nice and different from being in a room with bottles of water, awkward silences and possibly a TV if your lucky.
Entertainment:
Publicity & Media - they really pushed the social media prior to the event. On the night they had video recording and they repaid clips at the end. 
 Special touches - ipad countdown, ipad was used to manage the music system, now that
was DOPE!!

I have a shocker for you, the organiser is a 22 year old musician .. Yep you heard me correctly,  don't know his background that well but I know that he is a seasoned musician that has been playing for various UK Gospel artist. Jesse has a GOD SWAG about him  and it definitely showed in every detail of the event.
One of my personal goals this year is to build musician networks, step out my shell and broaden my horizons. I have been doing well but it does have its challenges especially when they are super talented and definitely if they are handsome, that's when I shut DOWN :o). But with time I know I will get there !!

We are a couple of days into the month, Happy Black History Month by the way..
I am on a buzz at the moment ! WHY? So  sunday I had the pleasure of  combining my music passion with events by attending a praise party. My sister invited me to tag along with her and although I was sleep deprived and only got an 1 hour sleep the Saturday night followed by a 10 hour shift I had to go check this event out.

The Praise party was held at the Fab bar & grill in Herne hill near Brockwell park.It was the perfect venue, soft ambiance, a lounge section which easily transformed into music area or main stage.
while you enjoyed the music you had the opportunity to purchase Caribbean cuisine

I must tell you it was delight and the talent and artists on the night were just amazing.  Here is my take on the acts that stood out to me.

The Cokers - UK gospel duo and couple  who recently celebrated their 4th anniversary, I'm sure they are the cutest couple ever.  It was just a pleasure to listen to, their onstage presence was excellent they balance the praise and the worship elements  beautifully. But I cannot lie Siobhan Coker  has a range that is soo crisp, her higher register just SSLLAAAYYS, I need to go book vocal lesson like ASAP!!

Lois Kirby - I tell you this, No one can deny that she has a testimony to share, she actually reminded me the Clark sister who have mastered their voices and can smoothly execute riff under the anointing. Her tone is just silk and her lower register is intense and powerful plus anyone lady who can play the keyboard, sing flawlessly and have other music masters have the 'stank music face' is a inspiration of mine.

The Reapers Choir : Contestants of the BBC gospel choir of the year, they graced us with clear harmonies and really ushered in the presence of God. Now if 5 people not to mention females can execute 'Total praise' without it feeling like you were cheated. It was just so excellent only worship could follow.

I always had an idea to do a live music night as my birthday bash and this was the perfect example of how I would want it. My only fears are: even though I know musicians around me, I am not known enough for them to actually come as I am not the most popular person and I tend to keep to myself and haven't expanded my music contacts yet and who wants a birthday party that is empty. But you never know what the future holds.

The best thing I found out is that this is a monthly event (I am rather late) so I you will be hearing more about these events in the future.

Gospel Week BLAST !!

Happy Monday !!! yes its another week and we are having weird weather over here in London but if you live here you would get used to it by now.  One of  my ultimate passion that I have loved since childhood and has always  been and will always be apart of my life is music and even more so gospel music. You could imagine my excitement when I found out about Premiere Gospel hosting a 'Gospel Week' which are  7 nights of gospel concerts, with well known UK gospel artist across various genres (House,reggae,african,jazz latin & afrobeats) across London and did I mention absolutely FREE !! yep you heard me right !!

But knowing me, most times late to catch the hype (sorry,old age) lol not really, most of the nights were booked out but I had the opportunity to attend the House & reggae nights and boy did I have fun. Traveling to the different venues,the atmosphere was exciting, being amongst people who enjoy good gospel music and trust me they danced away. Its the first of this type of event which they hope to do yearly but if its anything to go by I will be there next year..

Well its was emotional, but if you are in London next year at end of May/June please keep your eyes open for Premiere Gospel Week.

New Years Gospel Concert , what a blessing !!

I know its been a while but I have not shy away from events. I have been busy planning events at work especially over the Christmas period.
Unlike every New Year when I have been at home watching fireworks with my family but this year I had the privilege of attending a free gospel concert with 2500+ other people and it was absolutely awesome. I don't go out that often and to find myself at the midnight hour with so much people thanking God for the sparing my life to see a new year, it was heart warming.

So, my sister and I took the journey to Ruach Ministries in Kilburn to listen to anointed singers and skilled musician. The event started 10pm with Praise & Worship Team leading us into and preparing our hearts for the word of God. This was followed by Tag preaching from Bishop John Francis and Wife on Generational Entitlement and the significance of 14, it really helped my understanding about the significance of biblical numbers. Then way after Midnight at 2AM.....yes 2AM the concert began.

Roger Samuel: The UK Gospel Artist did minister well that man has range and he will transpose a song till you get up out your seat.
Tasha Cobbs: ANOINTED, ANOINTED ANOINTED, although young she has a testimony which you can hear when she opens her mouth and that range... I will be going vocal lessons.
Micah Stampley: RANGE.. he can hit notes that only GOD can give utterance and his backing Vocalists were on point the crispness of their harmonies are admirable.
Ruach Mass Choir : Harmonies and unity ... well done , I would love to be at your rehearsals.

Trust me I must be honest although this was an enjoyable experience it was also hard as I had to split myself between musicians and singers, there were times when I got totally overwhelmed to a point of stillness. WHY? Because I looove music, it has been escapism and a comfort to me throughout my short life and my ultimate dream is to be skilled in music.

Other things I appreciated throughout the night:
Dancers who had consistent high energy all night
Lighting such as scriptures, song words so that audience could follow.
Live streaming across 3 venues, Brixton & Walthamstow for the preaching
Staffing to help with crowd control
Music Directors and Choir directors
Being apart of an audience who was serenaded with skill and melody, the musicians were of high calibre and are truly inspirational its no brainer why in old time the Levites who played in the Temple were skilled musicians. And I want to be just like them.

Overall this event was awesome, I have learnt a lot and I will be on the look out for other events that Ruach Ministries have and look forward to Next Years Event. 

UGCY 2013, What a blast !

I must confess that I am a sucker for music (excuse my expression), but I just love, love, love the stuff ! Graduate by day and musician by night, I would say I have an eclectic taste for music. However my favourite is Gospel, no doubt about it.
I found out about UGCY in the ending of my first year at university when I was snooping around for information on How to start a choir at my university. University Gospel Choir of the Year or UGCY, is a movement which aims to encourage students to start a gospel choir at higher education and aims to have a gospel choir in all UK university. This was exciting for me because coming from the Caribbean, I was always at these competitions either in the choir or supporting my school when they compete in gospel competitions against other schools. So  I contacted the lovely, Lorraine Wright, the founder of UGCY and my the vision became a reality, and a mini choir was born.

So fast forward 2 years later, This year's UGCY Final was held in Hippodrome in North London. When we arrived, there was a long queue outside the building and we were so excited as we could hear the choirs, although it was vocal warm ups, sweet sounds echoed into the streets. When we finally got into the venue, we were engulfed with the sound of popular gospel anthems from  the house band (EPIC) and me and my little crew were singing out loud and dancing... We had no care in the world,
N.B. Sorry for the people who got annoyed but I actually I have been waiting all year plus I won tickets to attend. Whoop Whoop !!
I was really impressed with the electric atmosphere,Uni supporters, music lovers, the excitement, energy and diversity of what each choir brought to the stage, it was truly inspiring. But in the end Manchester University defended their title and won again. Well done !!
By the way, I loooooveed the UGCY House choir, they brought the presence of God down and they SAAANNNGGG! I got to go and start emailing to see if I can get my little voice in shape. Overall it was great experience, its my second time and it definitely a MUST GO in Tee's Calendar.

Funny enough, you never know what might happen maybe I can I combine my career path (Events  Management) and my passion (Music) hhhmmm, interesting, I guess it has a ring to it *grins*. FYI : Jahmene Douglas was there in the flesh,I wonder who is gonna give a guest appearance next year? See you there !!

Do what it takes.....LYG 2012

Hi Lil Stars

Hope you all are good and enjoying the weather. I am just back home from a looooong day of volunteering. Yes you heard me right, this is another way to bump up your experience well its free for sakes,a ll you need is an interest . I have just completed studies but I currently lack experiencen within my area which is where volunteering comes in. How did I do it?

1. Decide what you want to volunteer to do,preferably within the area you heading in
2. The purpose of seeking volunteering
3. Make sure your cv,is the best representation of you
4.  Sign up to few volunteer websites and apply for opportunities
5. Volunteer, make the most of it and Network
6. Make sure you clock your hours with the volunteer site and record the most relevant experience on your cv.                                                                                      

So thats a few of the steps im taking since I am in the post studies stage, its productive so its a good thing :o).

I volunteered at the London Youth mini games held in Crystal Palace Sports centre.
It was more than I expected. I thought I was going to be awkward and a bit antisocial btu I met a new friend Jovi, a lil gem and we hanged all day.. its soooo much fun!! Although some of the tasks were massive and tiring but good fun (filling and delivering 16,000 water bottle across 11 sports) and children can bcome a task to handle especially when they dont listen :o/.



But overall, It was a good experience and one I would recommend to people to go for. So get volunteering peeps you never know, you might just LOVE IT!!!
